About

Welthungerhilfe (WHH) is a leading international humanitarian and development non-governmental organization, committed since 1962 to the sustainable fight against hunger and poverty. Present in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since 1997, WHH focuses its interventions mainly in the east of the country, particularly in North Kivu and South Kivu, in a context marked by persistent armed conflicts, recurrent climate shocks and limited access to food and energy resources. The DRC is currently experiencing one of the most severe food crises in the world. According to the CPI 2025, nearly 28 million people are acutely food insecure (Phase 3 or more), including 3.9 million in emergencies (Phase 4). The territories of Masisi and Idjwi are among the most affected areas, with more than 90% of households affected by food insecurity. This situation is aggravated by massive population displacements, a high prevalence of gender-based violence and increased pressure on natural resources, permanently weakening host communities.
